Lecce and Salento are not only ideal for traditional tourism, they offer something most Americans might not automatically associate Italy with. In fact, most Americans are not even familiar with what medical tourism is yet.

Baldness and hair loss are normal in Italy, as Mediterranean men are genetically extremely susceptible to it. Italians know hair transplants, and they have been getting them for decades, before they even became mainstream. They have been going to Turkey for transplants before it became popular for Americans. Now, Italy offers a state of the art facility that competes and outdoes what Turkey has to offer.

Medical tourism is a service sector niche that Lecce is a perfect destination for. Given that it is still an untapped region for even many Americans who have been to Italy already, the proposition of vacationing and undergoing medical treatments such as hair transplants for hair loss in Italy is a very sensible and advantageous one.

The main rationality behind this is threefold:

1) Italy’s medical standards are exceptionally high due to its heritage and history, and due to the overwhelming amount of bureaucracy that goes with almost everything in Italy when serving the public. The regulations are extremely stringent, at both EU and national level, which consequently leads to a very high bar across anything within the medical realm. Just as an example, Turkish standards do not require a surgeon in every operating room for hair transplants, whereas Italian law does.

2) You can also trust that because Italians very much aesthetically inclined– and you need to look no further than Italian architecture, fashion and art to grasp that– they understand the nuances of balancing a hair transplant to optimize the outcome. For example, balancing the amount taken from a donor area and transplanted to the receiving area requires a finesse that not all surgeons have. If you are left with a very sparse donor area, you might feel you have another problem.

3) The cost is significantly lower than in the United States. From at least 30% less to 60% less when accounting for the amount of implants required which is what dictates the price of a transplant. Even taking the flight and accommodations into account, you can spend less or the equivalent of what the procedure would cost by itself in the United States.

4) Vacationing in Puglia Italy before a hair transplant makes perfect sense. You can spend a week or two unwinding and enjoying one of the most splendid areas of Italy before a positively life changing procedure. This region of Italy has been popular among Italians and Europeans for decades but most Americans have yet to experience it. It is a breathtaking region that offers coastal, city and cultural aspects that are unique, even to Italians form other parts of the country.

Aesthetic is what Italians have been known worldwide for decades. The country houses about 60% of the world’s artistic patrimony for good reason– they are known to be positively obsessed with aesthetics, and this is part of why getting a hair transplant procedure in Italy after a vacation is a winning proposition.
